Gabbro-diabase is an intrusive mafic rock composed of plagioclase, augite, titanomagnetite, pyroxenes, and amphiboles. It is transitional between gabbro and diabase. It is a paleotypic analogue of holocrystalline basaltic rocks. Based on its radiation-hygienic properties, the rock is classified as a Class 1 building material, with parameters below acceptable background values.
Gabbro-diabase is very popular as a sauna stone. At a relatively low price, it possesses all the necessary properties: thermal stability, resistance to cyclic temperature changes, the ability to heat up quickly, and retain heat for a long time.
