Soapstone is a metamorphic rock. It is used as a refractory material in metallurgical furnaces with temperatures of 1200°C-1600°C, significantly exceeding the maximum temperature in a sauna stove. Talc is 40-50% by weight, magnesite 40-50% by weight, and impurities (chlorite and serpentine) account for 5-8%.

Soapstone was formed under extreme thermal stress and high pressure, so it can withstand over 500 fire-water cycles without cracking or breaking, and the accumulated heat is released evenly and continuously. Soapstone is also resistant to direct exposure to acids and alkalis.
